9 Main Line Area Schools Named to Top 500 U.S. High Schools

Newsweek magazine named Conestoga High School and other local public schools to its national rankings.



Nine Main Line area schools were named to Newsweek’sAmerica’s Top High School’s 2015,” an annual list of the 500 best public schools in the country, two of which made the top hundred.

The list, which was released Wednesday, Aug. 19, named 22 Pennsylvania schools to its prestigious directory. Conestoga High School led the state, ranking 51 nationally, with Lower Merion following closely behind at 64.

The publication determines its rankings based solely on performance. The specific factors it takes into account include student retention rates, SAT and ACT scores, AP/IB/Dual Enrollment programs, AP scores, counselor-to-student ratio, those college bound, college readiness, graduation rate, and poverty level per institution.

The other seven Main Line area schools include Garnet Valley High School (#168), Harriton Senior High School (#188), Wissahickon Senior High School (#234), West Chester East High School (#420), Haverford Senior High School (#440), West Chester Bayard Rustin High School (#455) and Downingtown High School East Campus (#462).
