Editorial Interns

Main Line Today magazine offers editorial internships throughout the year for undergraduate and graduate students. Internships are unpaid and all interns must receive academic credit. Editorial interns will have the opportunity to write for various sections of the magazine, as well as our website, and gain real-world journalistic experience. During their time, interns will work collaboratively with our editorial team on monthly projects, conducting interviews, and fact checking stories. Interns will have the opportunity to pitch their own stories for publication, as well.

Successful candidates will have a background in journalism, communications, or English, and will have some experience writing for publications, however, other applicants with strong writing skills will be considered. Familiarity with AP style is a plus.

Interns are expected to adhere to a weekly schedule, which they will set up with their intern advisor based on their academic schedule, and be able to commit 12 to 18 hours per week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Transcribing interviews
  • Researching stories
  • Working with editors on long-term projects
  • Writing for web and/or print

Deadlines:

  • Spring (January – May): December 1
  • Summer (May – August): April 1
  • Fall (September – December): August 1

Web Interns

Main Line Today magazine is offering internship opportunities for students interested in gaining valuable experience writing, editing, and updating content to its online publication, mainlinetoday.com. Learn how the magazine’s editors relay printed material to the web using search engine optimization, social networking, and multimedia, such as video and photo galleries.

The web intern reports directly to the digital editor. The ideal candidate possesses strong writing and editing skills, an eye for detail, and a willingness to learn how editors publish stories on the web via social media and an online content management system. All technical training will be provided on-site.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Writing/editing online calendar event listings
  • Writing/editing online local business listings
  • Writing/editing web stories for mainlinetoday.com
  • Assisting digital editor in updating MLT’s social media pages

Candidate requirements:

  • Strong writing/editing skills (English, writing, and journalism majors preferred)
  • Must be comfortable using Mac OSX software (basic training can be provided)
  • Must be willing to follow directions and ask questions

Internship details:

  • Semester-long internship consisting of 10-15 hours per week (schedule dependent on candidate availability)
  • Candidate may apply for a second semester
  • All semesters available (summer, fall, winter, spring)
  • For college credit only

Marketing Interns

Main Line Today magazine is offering internship opportunities for students interested in gaining valuable experience in marketing projects and event management. The marketing intern reports directly to the director of marketing. The ideal candidate possesses strong writing and editing skills, an eye for detail, and a willingness to learn and be a creative thinker. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Maintaining event databases and making external contacts
  • Organizing and preparing for live events
  • Writing/editing marketing materials

Candidate requirements:

  • Must be comfortable using Mac OSX software (basic training can be provided). Basic InDesign and/or Photoshop skills are a plus. 
  • Must be willing to follow directions and ask questions. 

Internship details:

  • Fall/Spring semester-long internship consisting of 10-15 hours per week. Summer schedule 15-20 hours per week, based on candidate availability
  • Candidate may apply for a second semester
  • All semesters available (summer, fall, winter, spring)
  • For college credit only
