Skirtin’ Around in Wayne

When Lisa Barfuss designed her first cotton skirt in the late ’90s, little did she know she’d be heading her own preppy-chic clothing line 10 years later. Launched in 2000, Skirtin’ Around is now carried by more than 500 stores worldwide. What started as skirts today includes dresses, coats and blouses.

Adding to her locations in New Canaan, Conn., and Nantucket, Mass., Barfuss has opened her third boutique in Wayne’s Eagle Village Shops. “We’ve done very well in sales in this area,” she says. “Women here appreciate our style.”

It’s a style that appeals to those looking for a more conservative look, but with a dash of the unexpected. The fall/winter collection features mink-trimmed wool skirts, wool coats with bell sleeves, versatile cotton-knit wrap dresses, and silk button-down blouses—all in a variety of vivid colors and patterns.

“Shoppers appreciate that our sizes range from 0-14,” says store manager Maryellen Ridinger. “Our price point on all clothing is below $300.”

Ridinger offered a sneak peek at the adorable spring collection’s bright solids and prints, including a classy shawl-collar coat, ruffle V-neck dress, and gathered waist cover-up. It’s enough to make you long for warmer weather.
