Lil Sprout

Until she had Miles, Malvern’s Caroline Ritter never contemplated the shapes and sizes of bibs, burp cloths and blankets. But once she started using them with her son on a daily basis, she had her own ideas about how to make them more fashionable and functional. Two years ago, she launched her ’Lina Bean collection.

A Moore College of Art and Design graduate, Ritter is an accomplished fashion designer who’s worked at Lilly Pulitzer, Anthropologie and J.Crew, and with famed American designer Ralph Rucci. Her ’Lina Bean collection includes bean-shaped cotton burp cloths that easily stay put on the shoulder; cotton bibs for boys and girls; and plush blankets. “All of these items were very thought-out,” says Ritter. “I based all of the designs on my experience using them with my son.”

’Lina Bean recently added Green Bean, a line of similar items made with bamboo, fleece (derived entirely from recycled plastic bottles) and other green materials. “It was important to me to offer my customers the option of a sustainable product,” says Ritter.
