Maya J Opens in Manayunk

The highly anticipated restaurant opened on Jan. 29 in the former Chabaa Thai location on Main Street.

Manayunk welcomed its newest restaurant, Maya.J, this past week. Featuring locally sourced small-plates with global inspiration, the restaurant opened in the former Chabaa Thai location. Chef Craig Wilson has over 25 years of experience in the kitchen and has studied throughout the United States, Thailand and Europe to create his unique culinary point of view.

The menu is divided into three categories—land, sea and earth—and is defined by each plate’s main ingredient. The land portion of the menu includes plates such as fire-roasted chicken tandoori, braised short ribs and steamed duck dumplings. The sea menu features tom yum goong, crispy calamari and fish tacos. Earth’s menu includes bombas, Thai yellow curry and a grilled tofu kabob. Chef Wilson says, “Our small plate menu has been designed for sharing; we want our customers to enjoy a multicultural and unique dining experience.”

The bar has six beers on tap, plus wine and cocktails. Maya J. will be open at 4 p.m., Tuesdays–Sundays, with plans to offer lunch and brunch in the future.
