DanDan Opens in Wayne

Philly favorite DanDan recently opened a Main Line location.

Restaurateurs Kevin and Catherina Huang have opened the doors of their second DanDan in Wayne, where they’ll continue to reinvent upscale Asian cuisine. They bring the ever-tantalizing Sichuan and Taiwanese flavors of their Rittenhouse Square restaurant to an expansive new location in the space previously occupied by Ella’s American Bistro.

Tucked into the Devon Square Shopping Center, the new DanDan is more than double the size of its Philly sibling with over 100 seats. Ample parking and patio space welcome outdoor diners, but the real show is indoors, where the stunning ambiance is equal parts austere and seductive.

The bar, a gorgeous, knotty wood slab backdropped with grass green lighting and a Moroccan tile backsplash, beckons a stop for pre-dinner cocktails. Peacock blue walls punctuated with bone white pottery and dining rooms with glass walls create a chic and alluring aesthetic.

The mouthwatering menu of authentic mainland Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine entails quite a bit more than at the original location, but remains focused on expertly hand-drawn noodles and an irresistible interplay of spicy and sweet. A key of orange dots indicates the spiciness of dishes, all customizable and ranging from one to five dots for those wishing to test their palettes.

Namesake DanDan Noodles is a dish of warmed, lo mein-style noodles tossed with chili oil, sweetened soy sauce, sesame paste, scallions and minced pork. The dry pot chicken is served in a sizzling mini wok with black mushrooms, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, oyster sauce and a zesty blend of peppers. New dishes include braised oxtail hand-ripped noodles and fish in a tangy broth with pickled vegetables. Spirits, wines, craft beers and signature cocktails are also matched beautifully on DanDan’s pairing menu.

Catherina is excited to open the Wayne location to their already established and happy customer base and says, “Knowing we have a following is something we don’t take lightly. We are going to exceed expectations and wow Wayne.”
