8 Events You Can’t Miss at the 2015 MidAtlantic Wine & Food Festival

Back for its third year, the MidAtlantic Wine & Food Festival (MAWFF) kicks off five full days of food- and drink-filled festivities on Wednesday, May 13. While all of the first day’s and many of the remaining days’ events are already sold out, you can still buy tickets for a wide array of brunches, lunches, dinners and tastings taking place across Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Fruits of the Earth Winemakers Lunch: Take a midday break for a three-course interactive lunch pitting veggies against meat, paired with four wines. Try a vegetarian dish with the paired wines first. Then, a supplemental meat (or veggie, if that’s your preference) will be added to the original dish, allowing you to try the wine with an enhanced flavor profile. A Night in Shangri-La Winemakers Dinner: Nectar’s Executive Chef Patrick Feury, whose experience includes the famed Le Cirque, has brought together a handful of former Le Cirque colleagues for an unforgettable five-course dinner. On the menu: Nectar’s signature pan-Asian style of cuisine paired with 10 different wines. Several of the guest winemakers will be on hand to pour and discuss their vintages. $250; tickets online. Turks Head Winemakers Dinner: Enjoy dinner in the barn at the home of hosts Franny and Franny Abbott. Learn more about the long, rich political history of West Chester, once known as Turks Head, and indulge in its modern-day vibrant culinary culture. Winemakers will discuss the 10 wines on offer, which will be paired with a five-course dinner prepared by five different local chefs. $350; tickets online. Obis One Quarry and Catch Winemakers Dinner: This five-course dinner pairs wild game and fish, many caught from nearby lands and water, with 10 different wines. Local hunters will provide the game, local fisherman will provide the seafood and produce will be picked from Obisquahassit, New Jersey’s oldest working farm and home to the innovative artisanal Obis One Black Garlic. $150; tickets online. Scrapplegasm at the Green Room: Rise and shine with a three-course scrapple menu featuring two savory scrapple courses and one sweet “dessert scrapple.” This year’s innovative scrapple creations include veal cheek, venison and chocolate orange scrapple. $60; tickets online. Tasting with the Pros—Beer and Cheese Edition: The MidAtlantic Wine & Food Festival isn’t all about wine! At this event, beers presented in person by a number of brewers and cicerones will be paired with samples of cheese from local artisan cheesemaker The Farm at Doe Run. Sunday, May 17

Sunday Gospel Brunch: This marquee MAWFF event featuring the 60-member Combined Choir of the Calvary Baptist Church takes place at the historic World Cafe Live at The Queen. Expect savory and sweet brunch dishes from a host of area restaurants, in addition to samples of 80 different wines, spirits and beers from around the world. $125; tickets online. Sunday Stein + Vine: The festival closes out with live music and (of course) lots of food at an afternoon celebration on Rodney Square in Wilmington, Del. German beer, cider and wine will also be featured. Enjoy the street foods from New Orleans, Northern and Southern India, France, Germany, Australia and the American South at this outdoor event. $45; tickets online.
