October Pairing: Stone Barn Cellars’ Sangria and Avenue Kitchen’s Shrimp

Summer’s favorite wine concoction transitions beautifully into fall, and Villanova’s newest eatery debuts a delicious taste with an extra bite (of pepper).

The Sip

Ben and Suzanne Morrison of Stone Barn Cellars Winery are putting an autumn spin on their tasting-room sangria. They start with a bottle of their semisweet Deliciously Red wine as a base and add a blend of cranberry-grape and fresh lime juices, plus orange wedges. $5.

The Bite

Avenue Kitchen’s Grilled Gulf Coast Shrimp comes on a bed of crunchy, charred white-corn salad nesting on a spicy smoked-chipotle aioli. For an extra kick, chef Gregory Smith dabs his plump prawns with hot-pepper pesto, crowning them with paper-thin slices of jalapeño. $13.
