Your Guide to Kennett Square Mushroom Festival

On September 6 and 7, the Mushroom Capital of the World’s 29th annual outdoor festival will hits downtown Kennett Square’s streets and we’re serving up on a silver platter your guide of not-to-miss activities at the two-day mushroom bash.

General Info: The Mushroom Festival is a rain or shine event that unfolds throughout the downtown area of Historic Kennett Square. On Fri., Sept. 5, a community parade will kick-start the festivities as of 6 p.m. The festival officially unfolds unfolds Sept. 6, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. and Sept. 7, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Culinary Tent: Throughout the course of the weekend, the culinary tent will be packed with a fine-tuned lineup of celebrity and local chefs sharing recipes, tips, stories, and of course, educating attendees about cooking with mushrooms. Cooking demos to be hosted by America’s Best Cook’s Christina Verrelli, La Verona’s Jack Mavraj, Best Of winner Sean “The Gourmet” Bruce and Long Cove Foods’ Chef Will Tornay, among others.

National Fried Mushroom Eating Competition: Adventurous eaters from throughout the country will flock to Kennett Square on Sept. 6 to be crowned the savviest mushroom-eating champ. Last year, Molly Schuyler gobbled nine pounds of Buona Fried Mushrooms in 8 minutes. Will she be able to reclaim her title?

Farm Tours: Only once a year—at the Mushroom Festival—are guests invited to tour a working mushroom farm and shiitake growing house. Join Caputo and Guest Mushroom Co. as they guide you through the mushroom-growing process and so much more. Tours unfold Sept. 6, 12:30–3:30 p.m. Go the extra educational step and escape into the mushroom growers’ exhibit tent too.

Soup & Wine Tasting: Local restaurants gear up to battle for the title of the “Best Mushroom Soup in Delaware County.” A delicious mix of contenders will participate in the challenge, including neighborhood favorites like The Desmond Hotel, Gables at Chadds Ford, Ole Tapas Lounge and Restaurant and Buckley’s Tavern. Brandywine wineries will elevate the competition too, including Flickerwood Wine Cellars, Paradocx Vineyard, Black Walnut Winery and Galer Estate Vineyards and Winery.
