When Cycology 202 owner Ellen Spell injured her back 12 years ago, she sought out a new type of exercise and recalls that she “wandered into a barre studio kind of by accident and fell in love with it.” Since then, Spell, owner of SeaCycle Indoor and Sea Barre Fitness in Lewes, Del., has spearheaded invigorating fitness routines.

A former high school teacher and Kennett Square resident, Spell’s classes play on her tongue-in-cheek studio name. “Cyc 101” will serve a beginner’s level class in which beginners can “learn how to clip in, [learn] all of the different movements that we use,” explains Spell. The studio will also offer a 45 minute class and a 60 minute combination class that incorporates cycling, pilates, TRX and core workouts. Spell plans to offer barre and yoga classes in the future, as well. “It’s really going to be a full service, entire body workout,” she says.

Classes will be “high intensity, low impact,” says Spell. “It’s completely choreographed, so the whole 45 minutes you’re going to feel like you’re dancing on a bike. You’re going to get a very efficient workout.”

Expect a nightclub vibe in the studio, with dark rooms, concert speakers, disco lighting and lots of mirrors. “I love it. People every single day come in and say how this [these workouts] have changed their lives in some way,” Spell says.

Cycology 202 is expected to open late this August.
