Di Bruno Bros. Celebrate 75 Years

Di Bruno Bros. is turning 75, and that calls for a celebration! The family-founded, specialty food retailer and importer began as just a modest, South Philly shop in 1939. Admirable for stocking high-quality food and supporting the purveyors behind them, the company has grown to over 350 team members, hosting some of food industry’s most esteemed cheesemongers that hawk artisan cheeses and cured meats on a day-to-day basis.
Now, with five prosperous retail locations under their culinary belts—including Philly stops in the Italian Market, Rittenhouse Square, Washington Square West at The Franklin Market, The Market & Shops at the Comcast Center, and along the Main Line, in Suburban Square’s Ardmore Farmer’s Market—we can’t imagine a time without this heavy-hitting gourmet food supplier.
To honor their anniversary, the company is selflessly spending its 75th year hosting a series of fundraisers, all with a goal of raising $75,000 to support a state-of-the-art Neighborhood Kitchen at St. James School. This new Neighborhood Kitchen aims to provide nutritional foods to students and their families, which will be executed through on-site lunches and meal deliveries for under-resourced and hungry families. Better yet, the program will offer unusual and interactive outlets for learning about the culinary arts and nutrition.
Here are the top four ways you can cheers to Di Bruno Bros.’s 75 years and join in for the fundraising:
Opportunity 1: On May 17–18, Di Bruno Bros. will host its official 75th Anniversary Celebration at the Italian Market Festival. Outside of its flagship store (corner of 9th & Montrose Streets), Di Bruno Bros. will host a tented tasting area where guests may enjoy select $2 bites, such as fried pepper shooters, Parmigiano Reggiano nuggets with truffle honey or aged balsamic drizzle, Prosciutto Di Parma and homemade burrata crema crostini, and abbruzze cheese and crostini cups. All proceeds to benefit St. James School Neighborhood Kitchen.
Opportunity 2: On June 4, as part of Philly Beer Week, Di Bruno Bros. will host a culinary throwdown, where five Di Bruno Bros. stores will face off in a heated slider showdown. Guests may enjoy gourmet sliders and Deschutes Brewery beer pairings. Event unfolds 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Di Bruno Bros. Rittenhouse Upstairs Café, 1730 Chestnut St.
Opportunity 3: On June 26, the International Cheesemakers Rock Stars Dinner hits Di Bruno’s Rittenhouse location, where food lovers can enjoy a six-course beer and cheese pairing dinner featuring world-renowned cheesemakers.
Opportunity 4: On July 2, kick off Fourth of July weekend with a gourmet happy hour, cheekily named “Life, Liberty and the Prosciutto of Happiness.” Di Bruno Bros, chefs will prepare an array of unique prosciutto creations featuring La Quercia products, and pair all bites with Moore Brothers wines. Unfolds 5:30–7:30 p.m., at Rittenhouse location.
