News & Notes

» All hail the liquor license: bistro M owners Bob and Gayle Teti and restaurateur-at-large Jack McFadden are eagerly awaiting approval from the state to move forward with The Wine Bar at bistro M. Though the emphasis will be on boutique and specialty wines, martini lovers needn’t despair: There will be a full bar. Tapas, desserts and coffees are also part of the concept, initiated by McFadden. Since closing its in-house delicatessen in January, bistro M (575 Lancaster Ave., Berwyn; 610-644-1010, murraysmainline.com) has been working to keep pace with changing trends and economic fluctuations. Rest assured you’ll still be able to nosh on a corned beef special or lap up a hearty bowl of matzo soup. But the lunch crowd also will have its pick of more eclectic fare, including a roast turkey sandwich with bacon, goat cheese, cranberry chutney and 25-year-aged balsamic vinegar, and the Petite Classic Wedge—iceberg lettuce with tomatoes, lardons and blue cheese. The revamped, budget-minded dinner menu has more small plates, salads, appetizers and pasta combinations. In stirring things up, the Tetis hope to snatch the lion’s share of the Main Line’s casual bistro niche.
