Green Awards 2012 Honorable Mentions

Though the competition was tough, these local businesses deserve praise for their contributions to the Main Line's eco-friendly initiatives.

Given the popularity of environmental stewardship nationwide, we rightly assumed that it wouldn’t be difficult to assemble a list of worthy local candidates for our first-ever Green Awards. The problem, really, was narrowing it down to 13 finalists.

In truth, there was no real science to the selection process, and there were plenty of great stories to go around. “The Main Line has always been home to bright, savvy, penny-wise innovators, experimenters and investors,” says senior writer J.F. Pirro, who helped coordinate this project. “That makes alternative energy a natural fit here.”

John Scorsone—president of SolareAmerica, one of our winners—seconds that notion. “The Main Line is a hub of higher learning, and that’s a perfect marriage with our industry,” he says.

Scorsone and our other winners made a few of their own nominations for our 2012 Green Awards, all of which deserve recognition:

Aztec Solar Power. A global designer and integrator of solar photovoltaic and thermal systems, this Wayne-based company is already one of the largest solar installers in the United States. Aztec is now expanding into the Caribbean, South America and Europe. (

Brandywine Realty Trust. This Radnor-based real estate firm is also a local leader in sustainability thanks to Brandywine Environments, a portfolio-wide initiative. (
