Tina Fey Returns to Upper Darby Summer Stage

Take in a screening of “Mean Girls” and a Q&A with the comedian.

Don’t bother to acknowledge Tina Fey as the first female head writer for Saturday Night Live. In a perfect world, the acclaimed writer, producer, and Emmy-award winning actress would just want to be thought of as a funny person.

The funny person and Summer Stage alum will return to her hometown of Upper Darby on Aug. 16 to kick off the 40th season of the Upper Darby Summer Stage and host a fundraising event.

Tickets for the event include a 10th anniversary screening of “Mean Girls,” a film loosely based off of Tina Fey’s experience at Upper Darby High School. Also, TV Guide senior writer and summer stage alum, Damian Holbrook, will moderate a Q&A with Fey after the film.

Profits from event ticket sales will support the theater program in its effort to purchase of a new sound system for the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center. The investment is approximately $300,000.

“As we move into our 40th year,” said Harry Dietzler, executive director, “we are pleased, excited, and grateful that Tina will help us with our goal to upgrade our audio capabilities as we continue to raise the bar on the level of family-friendly entertainment we offer the community.”

The Upper Darby Summer Stage features 700 young participants each summer and brings in over 30,000 ticket holders to see family-friendly musicals.

Before Tina Fey was famous, she acted, directed, and worked in the box office at the Upper Darby Summer Stage. She even paid tribute to the theater in her New York Times best selling book, Bossypants.
