A Day of Racing Begins at the Rothman Institute Amateur Trials and Criterium

Catch the excitement at Bayard Rustin High School.

On Saturday, Aug. 8, there is no reason to wait until dusk to enjoy some race excitement. The day of racing starts with at the Rothman Institute Amateur Trials, beginning at 8 a.m. at Bayard Rustin High School. The trials consist of nine criterium-style qualifying races that determine the field for the Amateur Men’s Final held later in the day. Come out and cheer on the riders as they vie for a spot in the Amateur Criterium.

The top finishers from the morning’s trials will line up on the corner of Gay and High streets at 5:45 p.m. These local cyclists will race a route that includes eight blocks with four 90-degree turns and one short rise to the start/finish line. Make no mistake: The Amateur Criterium course is the same used for the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium Pro Race later in the evening. With $1,500 on the line, the cyclists ride their hearts out to finish best.

The Rothman Institute Amateur Trials are a USA CYCLING sanctioned event, and all finishing racers are factored in PAC BAR point scoring. Start watching early at the Rothman Institute Amateur Trials and Criterium—you’ll feel the excitement from start to finish.
