Game Masters Presents: Programming from Scratch (6/17/18) at The Franklin Institute

Date/Time

Jun 17, 2018
11:00 AM until 01:00 PM

Description

Future video game designers and developers--press start! The Franklin Institute is peeling back the interface to show the technology behind video game design and what it takes to develop and understand the scripts that run the games.

Game on! In this coding adventure, aspiring innovators will develop early skills in using Scratch, the simple yet powerful programming language for children. Challenged to step into the shoes of game designers, guests will first build a game controller, then be introduced to the code that runs the game, and finally become game developers themselves and create their own version of the game.

Facilitated by Franklin Institute educators and science interpreters, the two-hour workshop sets a foundation of computational thinking and encourages attendees to learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively—essential skills for everyone in today’s tech-driven world.

The Scratch game used in the workshop was developed specifically for The Franklin Institute and features a character in the likeness of Ben Franklin.

Developed to complement Game Masters: The Exhibition, on display at The Franklin Institute March 31 through September 3, 2018. Exhibit not included with the workshop.
