First 100 Law Enforcement Officers to Register Ride Free; All Proceeds Benefit the Animals MLAR Rescues Each Day

Chester Springs, PA – April 22, 2018 – Main Line Animal Rescue (MLAR), a local animal rescue and home to thousands of dogs, cats, bunnies and guinea pigs over the past decades, will hold its third annual cycling fundraiser in October and will waive fees for the first 100 members of law enforcement who register.

The MLAR Gran Fondo Cycling Event will be held on Saturday, October 6th at Pickering Meade Farm, the 60-acre home to Main Line Animal Rescue in Chester Springs, PA. The event will provide riding experiences for all levels, with four different races, 15K, 40K, 50K, 100K as well as four different timed hill climbs.  The term “Gran Fondo” is Italian for “Big Ride” and the concept comes from similar competitions throughout Europe with a focus on fun and celebrating riders’ success.

All proceeds from the event go toward the welfare, enrichment and ultimate adoption of the animals that live at MLAR.  The organization has served in animal advocacy for the past 20 years, finding good homes for thousands of companion animals.  Main Line Animal Rescue is supported 100% by private donations and events like MLAR Gran Fondo.

“We are excited to again bring together our rescue efforts and law enforcement,” said Leslie Briley, MLAR board chair. “Our generous sponsor, Wharton Business Group, is covering the $85 registration fee to the first 100 law enforcement officers who sign-up. This includes any active or retired, local, state or federal law enforcement personnel.  Simply enter code ‘BLUE’ at checkout. Last year’s officers really enjoyed the cycling part of the event as well as the opportunity to have a day of fun and fitness with their families.”

Pennsylvania State Police Captain Paul Gustaitis, who rode in last year’s inaugural event, commented, “The ride was fantastic.  The unique timed climbs were a great challenge and I look forward to beating my times this year. My family and I also really enjoyed the cheesesteaks and games at the huge after-party. It was an all-around great day”.

General registration is $85 per person before September 17th and includes the ride, well-stocked rest stops, SAG support, a timing chip, a t-shirt, and entrance to the after-party under the “Big Top.” The after-party includes lunch, beer from Conshohocken Brewery, live music, awards, a giant game area and, best of all, the chance to see some adorable, adoptable pets strolling the property. Tickets for just the after-party are also available.

About Main Line Animal Rescue
MLAR has fought to end animal homelessness for more than 20 years. The rescue has an extensive adoption program, humane education initiatives and has been at the forefront of anti-puppy mill campaigns locally and nationally. MLAR’s efforts have been highlighted in People Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, ABC’s The View, and Oprah. MLAR is an animal shelter unlike any other in the state; it takes in animals that are turned down by other rescues because of extensive medical or behavioral complications, and provides the necessary medical treatment, enrichment programming and training for each animal to become adoptable.
