PACT Foundation Breakfast: Diversity, Inclusion & the Innovation Blind Spot

Mar 8, 2018
08:00 AM until 10:30 AM

Join us for our annual Foundation Breakfast, as we gather to celebrate and support STEM education and diversity in Philadelphia's innovation community. This year's event theme will focus on recognizing and overcoming bias in funding, hiring, and education as we work toward a more inclusive tech community.

Our keynote speaker will be Ross Baird, Founder & President of Village Capital and author of "The Innovation Blind Spot: Why We Back the Wrong Ideas - and What to Do About It." Village Capital has recently launched in Philadelphia the VC Pathways Program for black, latinx, and female entrepreneurs seeking early-stage funding and support, in partnership with Ben Franklin Technology Partners.

We'll also have a lightning talk from Natalie Egan, Founder of Translator, a company "pioneering Diversity & Inclusion Technology" by leveraging digital, data-driven, and scalable tools to amplify talent development strategy and educational models.  Natalie has strong roots in the Philly tech community as the Founder of PeopleLinx.

Finally, joining us to speak on the challenges, opportunities, and success stories of tech inclusion in Philadelphia, is Brigitte Daniel. Brigitte is the EVP of Wilco Electronic Systems, a private cable operator dedicated to providing innovative technology services to underserved communities and to addressing diversity and inclusion inequities within technology ecosystems across the Nation.

The PACT Foundation works to provide financial support to STEM-based community initiatives and to underrepresented groups in high-growth technology and life science entrepreneurship. Portions of the proceeds will go directly to local computer science education initiatives.

Proceeds this year benefit CS4Philly, TechGirlz, Coded By Kids / Women in Tech, and the National Center for Transgender Equality.
