Enter the pixelated landscapes that once inhabited the cabinets of your local arcade. Explore the worlds of your favorite video games and discover how current games are bridging the gap between science and education. This event is 21+.

Fels Planetarium - Super Thrash Bros.

Part cosplay, part gaming and all music, Super Thrash Bros. will take over the Planetarium combining their unique blend of high energy rock and metal music with all your favorite video game tunes.   With actual game play on the Planetarium dome, this immersive experience will take you on a Sonic adventure from Hyrule Castle to the Mushroom Kingdom and everywhere in between.


Franklin Foodworks - 8-Bit Quizzo!

Games at 7:10, 8:10 and 9:10 pm      Approx. 30 minutes

Put your thinking caps on as Quizzo Master Bryce Remsburg challenges you to an 8-Bit edition of Science After Hours Quizzo! Each game features a unique round of questions with a free pair of tickets to the next Science After Hours: Clue for the winners of each round.


Electricity - Silent Disco


Show off your best moves and join the fun as Silent Philly brings us the tools for an electrifying dance party. With three stations of music traveling through the space, who knows what you’ll discover when you tune in and dance with friends both new and old.


Science Presentations 

Theater shows have limited seating capacity. Doors open 10 minutes before each show time and seating is first come, first served.


Franklin Theater - Making the World’s Biggest Video Games

Presentations at 7:40 and 8:40 pm   Approx. 20 minutes

Through gaming and art installations, Dr. Frank Lee, founder of Drexel’s Entrepreneurial Game Studio (EGS) is the mastermind behind some of the biggest video game in the world.  Lee developed a version of Tetris that was played on the north and south facades of the 29-story Cira Centre building in 2014 winning it the Guinness World Record for largest videogame display.  How was it achieved? And what large-scale gaming does he have planned for Philadelphia?


Musser Theater - Game On: Live Show

Shows at 7:10, 8:10 and 9:10 pm.     Approx. 25 minutes

Join our dynamic Live Science team as they demonstrate the capabilities of their newest and most realistic gaming console to date! Prepare yourself as some of your favorite gaming characters take you on a multi-sensory experience complete with real fireballs, explosions, projectiles and other precarious representations of the future of gaming.


Benjamin Franklin National Memorial - Pac-Man Mania

Demonstration at 9:50 pm

The Pac-Dots will be plentiful, the ghost will be unleashed and you get to gobble the goods.  Join us for this explosive finale and end the night on a high score!


Joel L. Bloom Observatory - Night Sky Observation

Join our knowledgeable astronomers as we look at the night sky through our historic 10” Zeiss refracting telescope. Weather Permitting.

NEW! Add Game Masters: The Exhibition to your Science After Hours: 8-Bit experience!

From Sonic to The Sims and from Angry Birds to Asteroids, explore the evolution of gaming from the 70s through today with objects, artwork, and stories from game-changing designers. Plus a remarkable 100+ playable video games! Game Masters: The Exhibition is the newest special exhibit at The Franklin Institute.

Tickets to Game Masters will be available as an add-on purchase onsite only during Science After Hours on June 26. Tickets are +$10 for individuals, and $9 for members and The Innovators.


First Entry to Game Masters: The Exhibition on June 26 is 6:30pm

Final Entry to Game Masters: The Exhibition on June 26 is 8:00pm

The exhibit will close at 10:00pm.
