Swiss Haus Bakery opens its doors to sweet tooths everywhere as it launches its second location in Old City and celebrates its 90th anniversary with an event not to be missed.
Thursday, July 23 at 12 p.m. on 313 Market Street come witness a Celebrity Cake-Off. Participating in the competition will be Tom Kehoe, the CEO of Yards Brewery, Philadelphia Cheerleaders, Laura Carnecchia (a.k.a. “Bilt Ta Spill”), of the Philly Roller Girls, and last but not least John McNesby, President of Philadelphia Lodge No. 5 Fraternal Order of Police. Swiss Haus will supply each contestant with a generous variety of toppings including (but not limited to): icing, apricot glaze, coconut flakes, blueberries, pecans, M&Ms, and even a cannoli to create a completely unique take on the Swiss Haus Cake.
The contestants will have 15 minutes to decorate their hazelnut cakes in front of a distinguished panel of judges, and the public will then have the opportunity to vote and receive complimentary cake samples. At $1 per vote, proceeds will be matched by the bakery and go to Philabundance to help feed families in the local community.
Swiss Haus’ new location will provide a relaxed European-style café setting where customers can order a pastry and enjoy a cup of La Colombe coffee. “Swiss Haus is well suited to Old City as it shares an important place in Philadelphia’s history. We’re very excited to finally be open after months of construction and I think our 90th birthday bash will be a blast. I can’t wait to see what kinds of cakes the contestants serve up!” says Joshua White, the bakery’s owner.
The famous bakery is most known for its classic hazelnut and mocha cakes, tiered wedding cakes, and assortment of cookies. Swiss Haus has maintained an innovative and forward-thinking heritage since the opening of its first location at 35 South 19th street in 1925. This took them from introducing gourmet hot chocolate to creating vegan and gluten-free options—all this, while staying true to its authentic roots and original recipes.
Stop by for this sweet charity event and share this important moment with Swiss Haus.
