Quick Bites

News & Notes

» Time flies: Gullifty’s owner Gene Johnson has been keeping Main Liners hopped up on premium brews since before many of us could drink (legally). Even so, it’s hard to believe five years have passed since the Rosemont institution (1149 Lancaster Ave., 610-525-1851, gulliftys.com) added its outdoor beer garden. In this iffy economy, Johnson is still pulling in customers at an impressive rate. These days, he’s eyeing the future with a few interior tweaks. By now, you might’ve seen the new tiles and paint, custom-made glass sinks and stainless steel stalls in the restrooms, or caught a glimpse of some of the work going on in the dining room and bar. Along with more comfortable stools and a few color changes, the bar’s makeover involves dressing up the backsplash and adding new backlit glass cabinets to showcase a stash of premium liquor that, up until now, no one even knew Gullifty’s served. The dining room will get custom-made glass ceiling panels to conceal the open ductwork. And don’t fret over the beer selection—Johnson knows he’s got a good thing going. But he does intend to diversify a bit, with a beefed-up cocktail menu and higher-end liquor offerings.
