After years of planning, the hard work and determination of several Delaware County residents was realized on Oct. 24 with the ceremonial groundbreaking and military dedication of the Newtown Township Veterans Memorial. The more than 500 people attending the event included veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. NBC 10’s Bill Henley was master of ceremonies, and the Marple Newtown Combined Veterans Alliance delivered a 21-gun salute. Designed by architect George Matuszewski, the monument will be constructed at Alice Grim Boulevard and West Chester Pike on land donated by developer Claude de Botton. It’s slated for completion in Fall 2011.
