Cornerstone Cheese & Charcuterie is a homecoming of sorts for Berwyn native Christine Doherty. Along with her husband, Nick Kondra, Doherty brings a European-influenced eating experience to downtown Wayne.

After spending significant stretches of their careers in Nantucket and Boston, they’ve rehabbed the former Yogo Sano space into a Northern California-inspired  gourmet market meets chef’s table.

Both 30-something chefs respect seasonality and quality—so much so that they’ve scoured the nation for the best culinary artisans and ingredients, versus taking the all-local approach. You’ll find charcuterie from Chicago’s Publican Quality Meats, top-notch cheeses from Vermont’s Cellars at Jasper Hill, and luscious smoked Nova lox from New York’s Russ & Daughters. Curated cases of artisan meats and cheeses encourage patrons to grab and go. Those who want to stay can always score a counter seat.

On a recent weekend visit to this small BYOB, we dove into a perfect bowl of Castle Valley grits with grilled shrimp, rich in organic Parmesan and crowned with a properly poached egg. Looking to score some elite smoked salmon, we also opted for the bagel and lox—built on a fresh everything, with capers, red onion and lemon crème fraîche.

For food lovers who don’t mind forking over $150 each, Cornerstone’s recurring Chef Series offers exclusive monthly dinners that feature nationally recognized culinary minds for a one-night-only multicourse meal.
