Anthony’s Cucina Fresca is a Must-Try

With live music, a fire pit and hearty entrees, the welcoming trattoria brings the heat to Downingtown.

When a nearby fire unexpectedly shuttered their hoagie shop in Downingtown, chef Danilo Angelucci and his wife, Katherine, didn’t let misfortune stop them. Instead, they took up residence in the former Avalon Pasta Bistro, turning the stand-alone space into a warm and welcoming trattoria.

Menu highlights at Anthony’s Cucina Fresca include delicious antipasto, tempting meat-and-cheese boards, handmade pizzas, build-your-own pastas, hearty Angus burgers, and entrées like the baked salmon (reflecting Danilo’s Sicilian heritage). Don’t be alarmed by the occasional aroma of smoldering applewood chips emanating from behind the well-stocked bar. The smoke is used as a wispy infusion for the Stormy Monday, a honeyed Johnnie Walker-laced drink that’s among several signature cocktails on a list that also features Italian wines and beers.

With outside seating by the patio’s fire pit, live music on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and some of the area’s most engaging servers, Anthony’s is on fire in the best sense.
