Blum dons the cleats and heads to the diamond once a week. It’s something he’s done for the last 50 seasons—and he’ll do it another 50 more, if he has his way. As the starting pitcher for Lower Merion’s Beth Am Israel team, Blum once believed he was out of harm’s way on the field—until a line drive broke his arm six years ago. “I’ll be playing the game until I’m standing on the mound with a walker,” he says.
