Your Home Improvement Questions Answered

Question: I want heated floors in my bathroom. Will this limit my flooring choices?

Answer: Tami Derrick, general manager, Volpe Tile & Marble, Chadds Ford and Paoli (volpetile.com)
You absolutely will not be limited in your flooring choices. We use natural stone (marble, granite, travertine and limestone), ceramic, porcelain and even wood over heated floors. All these materials conduct heat, so the floor—and your feet—will stay warm.

Heated floors were once a luxury chosen by few clients. Now the demand is higher than it’s ever been. I attribute their popularity to the attention they’ve received on the home improvement TV shows—and, of course, to the fact that people love not having to walk on cold flooring. In the past, heated floors primarily were installed in the master bathroom. Now clients are putting them in the kitchen, hallways, laundry room, sunroom, lower level—all over the house.
