When a horde of panicked teenagers (actually, 20-something actors playing teenagers) stormed out of the Colonial Theatre in the 1958 movie, The Blob, their flight anticipated the following decades’ exodus from downtown Phoenixville. While celluloid’s gelatinous mass of protoplasm chased Steve McQueen and company, it took a more insidious monster to empty the real streets: modern urban decay.
