Narberth's Brave Spirits.
You may not find an open liquor store on Veterans Day, but that’s no excuse not to stock up on a few bottles of Narberth-based Brave Spirits vodka, whiskey, rum and gin. David Fox, a former wine and spirits consultant for Diageo and Brown-Forman, started the company with his wife, Jennifer. Through its charitable arm, the Brave Spirits Foundation, $2 from every $20 bottle purchased is donated to fire, military, police and EMS charities and causes around the country. Each variety is 80-proof, and the bottles are shaped like soldiers standing at attention. All but the rum are made with grains grown in the Midwest, and distilling takes place in Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas and Florida—all of which make this a truly American endeavor. The rum is the smoothest of the bunch, though the four-year, oak-aged whiskey (made primarily with corn) is a close second, with its light vanilla and woody overtones.
