Jill Breslin, 31, Ambler
Head Coach, Women’s Tennis, Bryn Mawr College
» Book on her night stand: Jack Kerouac’s Desolation Angels.
» iPod album on repeat: Stop Making Sense by the Talking Heads.
» Restaurant of the hour: El Azteca in Philadelphia—great Mexican food.
» Personal hero: My dad. He introduced me to tennis. My parents made a lot of sacrifices when I was growing up.
» One thing she knows for sure: Hard work pays off.
» Very own vici: Last year, as head coach of Temple’s women’s tennis, our team won the Atlantic 10 Conference for the second time ever and qualified for the NCAA [tournament]. Additionally, I won coach of the year.
» Zen destination: I love the mountains, so somewhere out West—Colorado or Montana.
» If she had an extra hour each day, she would: Read more. I used to read a ton, but I’ve found it harder and harder to take the time to read a good book with my schedule the way it is.
» Pet peeve: Fake people. I like people who aren’t scared to be themselves.
» Most marked characteristic: Compassion. I relate well to people who are struggling, and I go out of my way to try to help them.
» Life view: chance or fate? Chance. You create your own destiny with the choices you make. I don’t believe that life will unfold in a certain way just because that’s your fate. You have to take chances and risks to get where you want to be.
» Qualities she admires most in others: Honesty and loyalty. As you grow older, you learn to choose your friends wisely; these qualities sustain relationships.
» Mantra: Work hard, stay focused and stay true to yourself.
