Misadventures in Stereo
Jim Boggia (bluhammock music)

Former Kennett Square resident Jim Boggia received a slew of e-mails from fans after “Live the Proof,” a track from his 2005 album, Safe in Sound, was featured in a Blackberry TV ad. But if the multitalented singer/songwriter had his way, the powers-that-be would’ve picked something from his equally excellent new CD, Misadventures in Stereo, on which Boggia (now living in West Philly) pays further tribute to the ’60s and ’70s rock, pop and soul classics that kept him chained to his turntable as a kid. Boggia’s penchant for emotional torment runs deep, but it’s rarely anything a catchy chorus can’t cure. Boggia performs Sept. 6 at Steel City Coffee House in Phoenixville. House of Dance
Beth Kephart (HarperTeen, 263 pages)

“You’re not supposed to think. You are supposed to dance … With dancing, there’s no rushing,” says Max, one of the many dynamic characters in House of Dance by Devon author and Main Line Today contributor Beth Kephart. It’s a tough summer for 15-year-old Rosie, who must endure daily interactions with a dying grandfather and a growing disconnect with her mother—until she finds unlikely salvation in dance lessons. A Speakeasy Prize in Poetry winner, Kephart should grab young readers’ attention with her knack for lovingly rendered detail and empowering themes.

2008 Eagles Season Opener
Sept. 7, Lincoln Financial Field (against the St. Louis Rams)

Enough with the pre-season love taps. It’s time for the Birds to show some muscle. Here’s our wish list: Brian Westbrook (pictured) decked out in green, smiling as he runs circles around his opponents; blockbuster acquisition Asante Samuel turning interceptions into touchdowns; safety Brian Dawkins re-emerging as the man to fear; QB Donovan McNabb healthy all year—and as nimble as ever; and kicker David Akers, well, just being David Akers. Could happen. Right?
