Polo for a Cause
Brandywine Polo Club Benefit
It was perfect summer weather Aug. 17, when the Brandywine Polo Club hosted more than 500 men and women dressed in their finest derby-style attire for an English tea, followed by the inaugural Richard I.G. Jones Memorial Polo Match. Jones, who passed away last year, was a former club president and member of the board of directors lauded for his tireless efforts to promote polo, fox hunting and land preservation. Guests also enjoyed Jack Russell Terrier races, and hat and tailgate competitions. The day concluded with a barbecue catered by Unionville’s Northbrook MarketPlace and live music from the Sermon. Chester County’s Elizabeth Moran, granddaughter of Betty Moran, organized the fundraiser for the nonprofit organization Work to Ride. The more than $30,000 raised will support horsemanship and equine activities for Philadelphia’s disadvantaged youth. —Tara Behan
