Doing Good
The Salvation Army's 130th Anniversary Celebration
The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia celebrated 130 years of “Doing the Most Good” for the region’s less fortunate on Oct. 28, honoring CBS 3/The CW Philly and others for their contributions to the organization. The anniversary luncheon was held at the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue, where Harry Smith, host of CBS’ The Early Show, was the featured speaker. Philanthropist Mrs. J. Maxwell (Betty) Moran of Chester County received the highest honor, the 2009 Others Award, which recognized her dedication to enriching the region’s cultural, educational, recreational and health offerings. The Salvation Army also honored Mayor Michael A. Nutter with the “Doing the Most Good” Community Leadership Award for his support of the organization’s mission throughout Philadelphia.
