Power Women: Sue Schick

Twenty-one of the Main Line's most successful and influential women share their secrets to success.

“Who ever thinks, when they’re a little girl, that they’ll grow up to work in the insurance field?” poses Merion Station’s Sue Schick. “In the original training class at my first insurance company, there were about 23 people, and only three women. That was very characteristic of the 1980s.”

Times have changed in a big way. “There are so many opportunities in the healthcare-benefits field that are not often considered by women,” says the CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Pennsylvania. “But you have to be proactive.”

When she’s not working to make UnitedHealthcare more visible in our region, Schick serves as the chair and Montgomery County representative for Gov. Tom Corbett’s Pennsylvania Commission for Women. “To develop great female leaders, you have to match them up with someone who’s going to coach them to be their best,” says Schick.
