Power Women 2013: Basha Silverman

Vice President Programs and Services at Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Greater Philadelphia

Though she had a ready-made career waiting for her at the family furniture business, Ardmore’s Basha Silverman had other ideas, choosing instead to work for Brandywine Counseling and Community Services in Delaware. Silverman remained there for 12 years before she decided to pursue her master’s degree from Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research.

In her current role as vice president of programs and services at Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Greater Philadelphia, Silverman is also a part of its executive team. For more than 150 years, JFCS has been helping kids, adults, seniors and families manage life’s challenges with its staff of licensed clinical social workers.

Though guided by Jewish values, the extensive services are available to members of all religions and socioeconomic means. Silverman is committed to bringing new programs to JFCS and growing the existing ones.  “A nonprofit, mission-driven social service agency like ours is at risk right now. I want to assist in finding that perfect balance between being guided by business principals and mission-centric guiding principals,” she says.
