Owner, Lulu’s Casita
For parents from the Main Line and beyond, Lulu’s Casita is a much-needed refuge. The homey indoor-play café is the creation of former nanny Vivi Zayas. Lulu’s is celebrating its second anniversary this month, and Zayas is planning additional locations.
What was the turning point in your career?
I always wanted my own business, and I always wanted to work with kids. When it was my turn to be a mom, I wanted something that was flexible. I now have a baby girl, Lulu, who is 11 months old. The concept of a play café is very popular back home in Paraguay.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Definitely the success of Lulu’s. It’s been a steady growth over the last two years by mostly word of mouth. Close to 6,000 families have come through.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Everything was a learning experience. I had a business partner when we started. We both didn’t have a business background, so we learned together. It’s really hard work. If it’s not your passion and dream, you won’t have the energy to make your business successful.
