Rose Ann Scanlon
Facilitator, Society of Professional Women
Newtown Square’s Rose Ann Scanlon spent eight successful years as an attorney for pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, where she would make an effort to leave work every Thursday afternoon in summer to enjoy a three-day weekend. It was her effort to create a work-life balance, and she tried instill that in her team. Scanlon took the philosophy with her to the Drueding Center and Women’s Way, serving in leadership roles for both Philadelphia nonprofits.
It’s no coincidence that both of those organizations focus on women and families—something that’s carried over to Scanlon’s most recent work with the Society of Professional Women. “Women are over half the work force, but such a small percentage of the leadership,” she says. “We need the best thinking from everyone, and we can’t afford to have any large percentage of our population marginalized.”
