Transforming a Breakfast Room into a Family-Friendly Space

Interior Designer Naomi Stein made this Ardmore home better suited to its owners.

Prior to interior designer Naomi Stein’s renovation, the owners rarely used their breakfast room in their Ardmore home. The table was too big for the room, and the chairs weren’t comfortable.

The new design solved both problems. Now, everyone wants to gather there.

Light blue-gray tile on the kitchen backsplash inspired the room’s colors. To keep the tufted settee pretty and practical, Stein covered it in a spa-blue indoor/outdoor fabric to avoid stains. She updated the classic Louis dining chairs with fabric seat cushions and a subtle, floral print on the back. “It’s a way to infuse pattern into the space without being overwhelming,” says Stein. “It’s a fun surprise.”

A round cherry wood dining table and crystal chandelier bring a touch of formality to the space. “This is the area where the family has meals and where the kids do their homework,” says Stein “Everyone is clamoring for the good seat.”
