Vice President and CFO, Operation Warm
Stephanie Cohen came across Operation Warm shortly after losing several friends in 9/11. While working as a CPA in public accounting, she sought out Operation Warm founder Richard Sanford and helped the Chadds Ford-based organization—which provides coats to children in need—become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and go national. “We utilized our experience in technology and distribution of technology,” she says.
Today, Cohen plays many roles in the organization, working with the CEO, the board of directors, corporate sponsors and even the manufacturers of the bubble coats made exclusively for Operation Warm. Founded in 1998, the organization is expected to reach its 3 millionth child this year. In 2018 alone, it distributed coats to 400,000 kids. “This is frequently the first brand-new item they’ve received,” says Cohen. “We’re looking to provide warmth and working to instill confidence.”
Operation Warm also works to connect children with healthcare services, libraries and other programs. “We’re hoping it’s the beginning of giving children access to safe spaces,” Cohen says.
