Best Cheesemaker 2016: There's a reason local chefs turn to Birchrun Hills Farm. The raw cows’-milk cheeses, crafted by Sue Miller and her family on their 100-year-old farm, reflect the care of true artisans. We love the Tomme Molé, coated with a blend of coffee, cocoa, and hints of chilis and cinnamon.

2015 Blue Cheese: One taste and you’ll know why Birchrun Hills Blue has received so much acclaim from chefs and culinary types alike. The handmade, raw-milk cheese is refined, with notes of mushrooms and forest floor. Densely rich and complex, this blue-veined beauty is perfect for cheese plates, burger night, or pairing with a Riesling or double IPA.

2014 Best Cheesemaker, Sue Miller: What started as a mission to save her dairy farm has turned into a prosperous business for Sue Miller. With the help of her husband, Ken, and sons Randy and Jesse, she crafts small-batch cheeses from the milk of Holstein and Jersey cows. We love the subtle, buttery Birchrun Blue and the tangy, earthy Fat Cat.

From 2012: Sue Miller is passionate about her cheese—and, boy, can you taste the love. Her handcrafted raw-milk variety has garnered multiple accolades from the chefs who source her products. There’s also those of us who can’t get enough of her renowned Birchrun Blue and pungent, creamy Red Cat raw cow’s-milk blend. Thankfully, you can find her cheese throughout the area, from farmers’ markets to retail shops.
