StarPoint and StarPoint 2: Therapeutic PreK/K and K/1 Academic Classrooms
September 8, 2015 – June 23, 2016
StarPoint™ classrooms embrace the concept that each child learns and grows differently. The research-based, academic intensive programs are grounded in child-development principles set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). StarPoint and StarPoint 2 focus on developing the core areas of literacy and numeracy as well as self-regulation, executive function and social interaction skills.
The programs support children's academic and therapeutic needs. Classes are taught by a certified special education teacher with ongoing support from and collaboration with licensed speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists. Our goal is to provide a positive classroom experience for children who would benefit from an alternative solution to traditional, larger classes and build the foundational skills needed to transition into other learning environments. StarPoint and StarPoint 2 utilize research-based curriculum for literacy, writing and numeracy.
Our curriculum incorporates the Nemours® BrightStart! programs for literacy, Growing with Mathematics and Handwriting Without Tears. Social skills development, art, music, science, technology and outdoor learning are included in the daily schedule. Twice a week, students will have group occupational and group speech-language therapies. StarPoint consists of a language-rich curriculum. The preschool programs incorporate activities based on motor-learning theory and provide many opportunities to practice motor skills in classroom activities. We utilize developmentally-appropriate practices to provide a safe, supportive and nurturing environment wherein children develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively.
Located at The Luma Center on Valley Forge Educational Services’ 28-acre campus, StarPoint and StarPoint 2 have access to a number of support services including curriculum development and clinical services professionals, a state-of-the-art sensory integration gym and a full-time nurse. Educational and assistive technology is used to enhance curriculum and learning experiences for children when appropriate.
Effective September 1, 2015: StarPoint and StarPoint 2 will be licensed through the Pennsylvania Department of Education under The Vanguard School license.
