The scoop: Aside from the stuffed koalas on the beds and a few pictures and books on the subject, this cozy, slightly quirky B&B doesn’t belabor its Aussie theme. The main house was built in 1925, its original owners part of the Herr family. Current proprietors Bob and Lynne Griffin are serious oenophiles, so don’t be surprised if they ask you to join them in the parlor for a glass or two.

Amenities: Though kids over age 7 are welcome, the Walkabout’s in-house massage package, abundant fireplaces and convenient yet secluded location make it the perfect place for an adults-only Valentine’s getaway.

Don’t miss: Take to the streets of downtown Lancaster on a guided Segway tour (redrosesegtours.com). Or explore the nearby homestead of James Buchanan, one of our most maligned presidents. Those looking for a romantic meal could do worse than John J. Jefferies (johnjjeffries.com), a sustainable gourmand’s delight in the trendy Lancaster Arts Hotel.
