I Hate to Miss a Good Party

Recap of First Friday Main Line’s Foodapalooza.

First Friday Main Line held its first-ever Foodapalooza last Friday, and I’m still trying to get over the fact that I couldn’t break free from other responsibilities to attend. From what I saw on the post-wrap Flicker photo gallery (thanks, Carla), I missed out on some good-looking and apparently good-tasting eats. Over 200 guests rang in the First Friday of February with a serious spread of signature dishes from local restaurants like Auspicious, Cafe San Pietro, Fuji Mountain, McCloskey’s, Mediterranean Grill, JR Monanaghan’s, Primavera Pizza Kitchen and Whole Foods Market. Attendees also participated in a mini wine tasting, and got to dive into a chocolate fountain [partially] stocked with delectable goodies from Whole Foods in Wynnewood. Celebrity judges added extra fun to the culinary competition element of Foodapalooza, doing a little tasting of their own to choose the best appetizer and doling out points for taste, presentation and other criteria while playing off popular TV culinary challenges. Celebrity judges included chef/author Aliza Green, Irene Rothschild, State Senator Daylin Leach and Linda Lipsky. Primavera Pizza Kitchen’s Tim Mellor produced the winning appetizer, a delicate balance of shrimp, scallops and puff pastry enveloped in a lush cream sauce—one of his signature dishes. Next up is Carnivale in March, so stay tuned …
