» Book on his night stand: Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey. His nonfiction turned out to be great fiction, so maybe his attempt at a novel will be, too.
» iPod song on repeat: The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun.”
» Restaurant of the hour: Osteria in Philadelphia.
» Personal hero: My dad. He spent his life doing what he loved; he was a music teacher and violinist. He was one of the most patient and kind people I ever knew—and if you ever tried to teach anybody violin, you’d know how much patience that requires.
» One thing he knows for sure: Life is short.
» Very own vici: Starting a new career (Avery Galleries) at the age of almost 50.
» Zen destination: A place in Cape Cod called Woods Hole. I was born and raised there. To me, it’s home—but it also has some of the most beautiful water and landscape I know of. And it’s populated with scientists more than tourists, which is unusual for the Cape.
» If he had an extra hour each day, he would: Spend a little more time reading, because I like the idea of trying to read one book a week.
» Pet peeve: When people throw their cigarette butts out of windows and act like they’re not littering. It drives me crazy.
» Most marked characteristic: You might say I’m a bit of a perfectionist.
» Life view: chance or fate? I think it’s a little bit of both, but more self-determination than chance or fate.
» Qualities he admires most in others: Loyalty and honesty.
» Mantra: Dogs bark, but the caravan moves—which is basically a way of telling myself not to listen too much to what others are telling me to do—just to go my own way.
