Interior Design Consultant Gayle Teti’s Classic, Yet Modern, Style Tips

The Glen Mills decorator shares her secrets.

When Bentley Homes wanted a transitional interior design for the model home of its latest development, Ashwood Hall in Devon, it called upon Gayle Teti. After working independently for more than 20 years on the Main Line, Teti is now an in-house interior design consultant at Calico in Glen Mills. “We provided high-end furnishing and fabrics with a modern, classic feel that enhanced the architecture of the home,” she says.

Personal decorating style: I’d say that it’s simple, modern classic. I am most comfortable with clean lines and soothing color schemes, but I’m always incorporating eclectic pieces to give a space personality.

Favorite room in her house: My living room, where I showcase art and objects that I have collected over the years and integrate them with furnishings with comfortable fabrics and textures.

Designer who inspires her: Victoria Hagan. Soft palettes, clean lines and the creative use of unique art and objects to create her environments have always inspired me.

Color she can’t design without: Benjamin Moore’s White Dove. It is a soft white with a hint of gray that makes it look like half and half. It is the best color for trim and is great if you want a soft, crisp, clean white space.

Elements she tries to incorporate into a space: Mirrors framed in all sorts of ways. They immediately open up a space and reflect what else is going on within the room.

Favorite design trend: The use of linen. It is a natural fabric that has been around forever. I love its texture, and it exudes a certain casual elegance.

Favorite room to design: The kitchen. I love the juxtaposition of utilitarian versus lived-in comfort.
