Located near the popular Keswick Theatre, the year-old brainchild of Jack Craig, Pat Doyle and Phillip Yesenosky was born from positive responses gleaned while manning pop-up tents at festivals, farmers’ markets and sporting events.

Head chef Joe Ermigiotti puts his spin on the traditional dumpling with crisp, meatball-size pastries that surround juicy meats, crunchy vegetables and even cheesecake. “Everything’s made from scratch,” he says. “The only things not made in-house are the utensils.”

Ermigiotti’s impressive fillings include tangy buffalo chicken, shredded roasted pork with broccoli rabe, aged provolone stewed in an herby-garlic au jus, and the vegetarian spinach, mozzarella and ricotta. Seven bucks gets you five dumplings with house-blended dipping sauces.

Humpty’s also puts a comfort-food spin on lo mein, mixing signature sauces with tender meats and seasonal veggies. Don’t miss the chicken-potpie version, which sports a flaky piecrust.

Original brick walls and exposed ductwork make Humpty’s space pleasant but not kitschy. Uncluttered seating, cool light fixtures, and impressive street canvases by cook/artist Chuck Prince-Lynn advance the funky, casual vibe. Wednesdays feature a Hump-Day Special. BYOB, takeout and catering are available.
